Detail & Features
When I came across these beads my heart skipped a beat. These are really rare antique Venetian glass beads, called Gooseberry Beads, named after the stripes on them that resemble an actual Gooseberry. They are made using clear glass that is striped with white glass, then pulled into cane and cut. So the white stripes are actually IN the glass, not painted on the surface. These beads are so beautifully worn and handmade. Based upon my research, according to the olive-like tube shape of these beads, they were probably made in the 1600's. Just think of the journey these beads have made!As these beads are expensive, I have broken up a strand to make them affordable. This listing is for 2 loose beads. I may also have whole strands; if you are interested, please message me.
Individual beads measure approximately 5.5x12mm, but the size does vary some from bead to bead. The holes on these are approximately 1mm. Keep in mind that these beads are *very* old. Some of them do show some wear, and possible nicks on the surface.
