Detail & Features

These recycled glass beads are made in Ghana by the Krobo tribe. I love the subtle boldness of them, and they have such a great shape as well as a large hole! These would be great for stringing on leather or other cords.

Bead Size: 14mm diameter
Strand Length: 24"
Approximate # of Beads: 40-45
Hole Size: 3mm
Color: Frosted White
Country of Origin: Ghana

Such a great round shape that it is slightly imperfect, lending that handmade feel to your creations. The beads vary slightly in size, but they are approximately 14x12mm, with about a 3mm hole. These beads are strung in a loop on a raffia, the way they are traditionally strung in Africa. The strand is approximately 24" long, with 40 beads.

These beads are made from crushing glass beads into a fine powder and heating it in a mold. A cassava leaf stem is swirled around inside the mold to make the hole. They are baked in an oven where the glass fuses, and the cassava stem burns away. It's a fascinating technique that I have been lucky enough to witness. This is the same technique that has been used in Africa for centuries.
