Vintage Handmade Camel Blanket from India (VBL9)Woman Shops World
Coming from the land of color and adornment, this festive textile is a true vintage camel blanket, from Rajasthan, India. The handstitching and workmanship on this piece is absolutely incredible. The love that went into this is so clear from one glance at this piece. In case you don't have a camel that needs adorning, this would make an incredible decorative element, or could be up-cycled into something fabulous!
Made of soft patchworked cotton fabric, that has been heavily embroidered and tasseled around the edges, it measures 59" wide by 68" tall at its longest points.
It has a seamed opening in the middle, where the saddle would go. This hole measures 17.5". As you can see from the pictures, it can easily be hung so that hole does not take away from the overall effect, or it could be stitched closed.
This piece is in beautiful vintage condition. I had it washed after I found it, so it doesn't smell like a camel ;-) Please keep in mind that this is, however, a vintage piece. It has been used, loved, and does not look brand new. It still has many years left, undoubtedly!
There are some areas that are slightly stained (see photos 6 and 7), but the piece is so intricately busy and beautiful that they are not eye sores and do not detract from the overall beauty of the piece.
The creative possibilities for this piece are truly endless. The tassels on the edges are so vibrant and whimsical. It is a beautifully large piece too.

As with all of my goods, I travel to the source and hand-select all of the items that I sell. My husband is from India, and when he took me to India for the first time and I told him I wanted to sell camel "gear," he told me I was crazy. I insisted, and we scoured the streets of Jaipur to find the man who sells the camel swag. I finally found him, and my life will never be lacking in pom poms or color again!
I have lots of other textiles. Click here to shop.
