Detail & Features
Beautifully handcrafted, these beads are made from large pieces of off-white conch shell. Such a striking color, they have shades of off-white, cream, and a bit of orange. Cut from the center of conch shells, they have a rich natural pattern on them. The shape varies slightly from bead to bead, adding to the handmade nature, but they are generally a tube shape, and strung graduated, so the beads in the center are larger than the ones on the ends.
Though I am unsure exactly how old these beads are, they date somewhere between 1775 and 1925.
These beads are strung in a loop, they way they are traditionally strung in Africa.
This listing is for 1 strand that measures approximately 27" long.
There are approximately 50 beads per strand that range in size from approximately 10x10mm up to about 20x22mm.
