Detail & Features
Super-fun, multi-colored and soulful, these beads are made in Ghana by the Ashanti people. Don't you love the boldness of them? And they have such a great shape and a large hole! These would be great for stringing on leather or other cords.
These beads are made entirely by hand in Ghana using a unique process that is hundreds of years old. Powdered glass is poured into a clay mold and heated. Once it starts melting, a Cassava stem is used as a mandrel, moved in a circular motion in the center of the glass, to form the hole in the bead. The beads are then cooled in a kiln.
Such a great rondelle/saucer shape that it is slightly imperfect, lending that handmade feel to your creations. The beads vary slightly in size, but they are approximately 14x3mm, with about a 2mm hole. These beads are strung in a loop on multiple threads, the way they are traditionally strung in Africa. So they could be worn temporarily as a necklace.
