These striking turquoise blue coin shaped bone beads are made in India, from cow bone that have been stained blue and the white and the peace symbols were created by using a resist. These beads are uniquely drilled on opposite sides to create a step like cascading effect making the beads lie on each other.

Note: The painted peace symbol on both sides of the bead is painted in opposite directions. But the beads stack on top of one another when strung one after the other, so it will keep them from flipping around on you. If using these as pendants, please keep this in mind.

These have a nice slightly-larger hole on them (approximately .5mm), so they would work on smaller cord or twine.

Curious to know about the source of the bone?

In India and Nepal, not much is wasted. So instead of just eating the meat of an animal, every part of the animal is used: bones for things like beads, hides/hair for clothing and accessories and talismans, and the meat is consumed.

The making of these beads and pendants provides a livelihood for families in remote villages in Nepal and India, which we are honored to support and share with you.
