Detail & Features
The tradition of hand-weaving Ikat fabric has been prominent in South Indian culture for many generations. Ikat fabric is quite labor intensive, as the fabric has to be dyed in a particular linear pattern before it is woven, in order to create the beautiful geometric pattern that you see. An intricate combination of warp and weft threads are dyed so that they will create this pattern when loomed together. This process is done entirely by hand. See the last photo for a picture that I took on a recent trip to South India, in a handloom co-op. This will give you a better idea of the intricacies and technique that is used to weave these beautiful fabrics.
This fabric is great for all kinds of sewing projects. Washable and durable, the light weight cotton is so breathable and soft.
