Detail & Features
Color, history, and a little bit of wanderlust — all in one strand.
These vibrant African Love Beads were originally made in former Czechoslovakia for trade throughout North and West Africa. For generations, glass beads like these traveled ancient trade routes, exchanged in desert markets and coastal ports, eventually becoming a beloved staple of layered necklaces known today as “love beads.”
We’ve had these in our possession for over 20 years, carefully stored and waiting for their next life. Each strand is a joyful mix of tiny glass rondelles, tubes, and occasional faceted beads in a bright, eclectic palette. Think translucent honey golds, clear shimmer, bold opaques, candy stripes, and unexpected pops of color — no two strands are ever alike.
Historically, small glass beads like these circulated through Moroccan trading cities near the edge of the Sahara, where European glass met African artistry and style. Decades later, they were rediscovered and embraced for their effortless, free-spirited layering appeal — and they’ve remained iconic ever since.
Wear them as-is for an instant boho-global look, or layer multiple strands for a festival-ready statement. Or cut and redesign into your own custom creations
