These are really enchanting and delicate beads hailing from the Dogan Tribe in Mali. Called "Dutch Donuts" because of their donut-like shape, and because they are Dutch beads traded into Africa. These beads are old, as old as the 1500's. Made of glass wrapped around a mandrel and formed into this round shape. They have obviously been treasured, worn, and travelled far.
On some beads you can feel where the thread of glass started or ended. Some have slight pits or markings on their surface, but nothing that detracts from their beauty.
These are pretty unusual in this opaque color, as frosted clear, or translucent blue is more common.
These beads are old. They show dirt and minor chips on some edges. This is part of their beauty, and attests to their age. African beads have such mystery attached; they have been worn for decades, travelled continents, and will be around for hundreds of years into the future. Be a part of their allure and let these beads grace you with their presence.
