Material: Yak Bone
These are purely authentic yak bone beads from Nepal, that have been stained a lovely brown color. Due to the porous nature of the bone, the stain has a slightly speckled effect, which creates a great texture. These beads have a great handmade rondelle shape, so the shape does vary slightly from bead to bead.
The beads measure approximately 14x11mm, with a 2-3mm hole.
These beads are strung in a loop, the way they are traditionally strung in Nepal. The strand measures 49" with a natural-colored tassel at the middle.

In India and Nepal, not much is wasted. So instead of just eating the meat of an animal, every part of the animal is used: bones for things like beads, hides/hair for clothing and accessories and talismans, and the meat is consumed.
The making of these beads and pendants provides a livelihood for families in remote villages in Nepal and India, which we are honored to support and share with you.
