I'm so excited to finally bring you these Guru Beads, in new bold colors made to coordinate with our bone bead line! Guru beads are used as a closure on traditional Malas and yoga-style jewelry. Super natural and beautiful, these are made cow bone that has been stained various colors, with a mottled surface.
The round bead has 3 holes in it so that you can close off your bracelet or necklace on both sides, then pull the thread through the third hole, and through the column bead, then add a tassel and knot your thread. See the 4th photo for an example of this process in action.
The 8mm size are available in these colors (see photo #5):
#4: Mossy Green
#6: Desert Sand
Curious to know about the source of the bone?
In India and Nepal, not much is wasted. So instead of just eating the meat of an animal, every part of the animal is used: bones for things like beads, hides/hair for clothing and accessories and talismans, and the meat is consumed.
The making of these beads and pendants provides a livelihood for families in remote villages in Nepal and India, which we are honored to support and share with you.
A portion of all WSW sales will be donated to The Compassion Collective, which works to feed, clothe, shelter, and save our refugee and homeless sisters, brothers, and children in the US and worldwide.
