These vibrantly colored bone beads have such a cheerful feel to them. The color and unique shape reminds me of one of my favorite sweet treats: saltwater taffy!
These ethnic beads are handcrafted as a cottage industry in India, from cow bone that has been stained blue, with a cream inlay in the middle. These are more intricate than most of the bone beads that we offer, due to the beautiful laminated technique.
The tab-like shape of these would look great as a focal bead on a bracelet or necklace. The design possibilities are infinite!
These have a nice slightly-larger hole on them (approximately 2mm), so they would work on smaller cord or twine.
Curious to know about the source of the bone?
In India and Nepal, not much is wasted. So instead of just eating the meat of an animal, every part of the animal is used: bones for things like beads, hides/hair for clothing and accessories and talismans, and the meat is consumed.
The making of these beads and pendants provides a livelihood for families in remote villages in Nepal and India, which we are honored to support and share with you.
A portion of all WSW sales will be donated to The Compassion Collective, which works to feed, clothe, shelter, and save our refugee and homeless sisters, brothers, and children in the US and worldwide.
